Teacher Type in M. Sunullah Arısoy's Karapürçek Novel

Abstract

1. Sunullah Arısoy constructs his narrative around the teacher type in his novel Karapürçek. Theteacher gives important signs in the novel with his ideological-idealist discourses on the axis of the events he experiences. These statements also be artraces of what the perception of the time was and what constituted the agenda. M. Sunullah Arısoy tries to show how the discourses, activities and reservations of the villagers against the teacher type can be over come through the practices developed by his character. In this way, while the character's commitment to his ideal is tested, it is revealed how important the prejudices of the villagers play an important role in addition to the administrative mechanism that stands against him. It is shown to what extent the politics and perception of managing the situation and passing the day leaves a village and its people behind. On the other hand, it is also shown to what extent the incidents that occurred as a result of the contradictions between the previous teachers working in the village and the villagers reached and which discourses / concepts emerged more on the axis of which discourses /concepts. In this respect, the study examines which points a read dressed by centering on the ideal-perceptual expressions of Arısoy's teacher type, and at which points the peasant-teacher duo intersects and contrasts in terms of under standing.
